Research Facilities
Potential students interested in the outstanding PhD and MSc projects the Department of Earth Sciences has to offer should contact the faculty member in the area of interest before applying through the office of graduate studies.
DES and MERC maintain ~3000 square metres of office and research space in the Frasier Science II Building and the Willet Green Miller Centre on the Laurentian University campus overlooking Ramsey Lake, Bethel Lake, Lake Nephawin, the Laurentian University Arboretum and wetlands, the Laurentian Conservation Area, and the Idlewylde Golf Club.
The Willet Green Miller Centre also houses the Mining Division of the Ministry of Northern Development of Mines, including the Ontario Geological Survey, the Ontario Mines Library, the Ontario Geosciences Laboratories, and the Mine Recorder's Office, as well several other Laurentian Univeristy mining research centres, including the Central Analytical Facility (CAF), Centre for Environmental Monitoring (CEM), the Centre for Integrated Monitoring Technology (CIMTEC), the Centre for Mining Technology (CMT), the Geomechanics Research Centre (GRC), and the Mining Innovation, Rehabilitation, and Applied Research Corporation (MIRARCO).
DES and MERC researchers have access to a wide range of computing, data visualization and presentation, and geochemical/mineralogical analytical facilities in the Willet Green Miller and Fraser Buildings, including:
